This piece was inspired by two beings: Grandmother Willow from the film, Pocahontas and Uncle Bruce Keaulani, a beloved leader and Kahuna in Hawai’i.

I believe more than ever, we need to be listening to indigenous elders. When we are lost or disconnected, we have the unique opportunity to learn from their brilliance, wisdom, and compassion. We are life’s future ancestors who will be tasked in nurturing this earth and generations after.

Wherever you are in the world, I hope you pause often to be with the trees. Trees remind me that we are never really alone, we are not separate from anything.
